Quick Warm-Up Routine

I use this sequence with my group violin classes and string orchestras to get my students warmed up, focused, and ready to play.

The Rest Position Song

This is one of the first songs I teach to my beginning violin students.

Rest Position to Play Position

Moving from Rest Position to play position with your violin. This does not include holding the bow.

The Bow Grip

An introductory class about the bow grip. How to make it, a few exercises, and a song.

Setting Up the Left Hand

This is a short video about how to maintain the proper hand position while holding the violin. Made for beginning violinists who are just getting comfortable holding the instrument and putting fingers down on the strings.

The A-E-A song

A song for beginning violinists involving pizzicato and the two highest strings.

Elephants and Ants

A beginning violin song that introduces the 4 open strings (E, A, D, G).

Flower Song

This is an introductory song that uses the A and E string and is an excellent preparation piece for the Twinkle Variations in Suzuki Violin Book 1.

Monkey Song

This is an introductory song for young violinists on the A string using the "Pepperoni Pizza" rhythm.

Flower Monkey Song

An introductory song that combines Flower Song and Monkey Song. It is also the first part of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Variation A in Suzuki Violin Book 1.

Twinkle

Twinkle Form

I always explain Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as having a Sandwich Form: Flower Monkey Bread - 2 scoops/slices of your favorite filling - Another Slice of Flower Monkey Bread.

Variation A, “Pepperoni Pizza”

Variation B, “Popcorn and Candy”

Variation C, “Run Pony”

Variation D, “Choc-O-late Strawberry”

Variation E, “Grandma Rides a Motorcycle”
