New Blog Series Announcement! - Yoga + Music

Dear readers, subscribers, friends, family, followers, and beyond,

I’m excited about my newest addition to the blog! I’ve been thinking about it for some time now and it has circled back around to my consciousness since starting my Yoga Teacher Training with Rocky Heron and Noah Mazé a few months ago.

Once per month (if I stay as organized as I’m hoping to be, it will be the 4th week of the month), I will be discussing a component of yoga practice. I will talk about a wide range of topics from physical asanas, philosophical concepts, a theory or belief, breath, a sensation, a historical figure or teacher etc. etc. etc.

In my yoga training, I am reminded of what made me so excited about the connections between yoga and music many years ago. The notion of practice, the role of the physical body in expressing or finding something bigger, the history and tradition, the major players, and so much more. There is so much to talk about and so many parallels to draw and explore. I just couldn’t resist this opportunity to revisit and put words to my thoughts and perspectives on music and yoga.

Sometimes, I’ll talk about just one. Sometimes, I’ll talk about the other. Most often I’ll talk about where they converge, align, overlap, run parallel, intersect, and influence. This should be really fun so I invite you to dig in with me. There is so much information about music and yoga out there in their separate fields, less about their relationship to each other, and very little from the perspective of a musician yogi.

Leave a comment if there are any specific topics you want me to cover. For now, please enjoy a few previous posts I’ve written on the topic. Turns out, I’ve been writing about this for quite some time already (first post about it was in 2014! Oh My!)

One of my very first blog posts - about what I learned in pursuit of Hanumanasana

My First Blog post about Menuhin and Iyengar - I’ve been obsessed ever since.

A further post about teaching lineages in yoga and music - specifically about Menuhin. Lots of videos here.

“Who Said That?” Can you tell the difference between a Suzuki quote and an Iyengar quote?

A few recommended yoga arm postures that feel good in a busy gig season - hopefully this returns!

My Yoga Journey - All the stops I’ve taken along the way to the present.

My complicated feelings about being a Yoga teacher in today’s world

And of course, you can access my dissertation, “Using Iyengar Yoga to Enhance Violin Playing,” here
